Bad days & Cement cookies

Yesterday I was having a horrible day. My mom, who is also a Pinterest-enthusiast created this cookie jar idea she got off of Pinterest.

Jar O' Cookies Jar O' Cookies

The jar is filled with most of the ingredients to make cookies and so, hey, let’s make cookies.

No.

As I dumped out the jar into a mixing bowl, it became apparent that the brown sugar had hardened and wasn’t coming out of the jar.

Brown stuff

I spent the next ten minutes thinking it was cinnamon and it could be sacrificed. Plus, I needed the sugar underneath it. I used a butter knife to dig a hole and came out with several little lumps of brown sugar…

Clumps o brown sugar

(It wasn’t until after I had baked the monstrosity of cookies that my mother text me back saying I could soften the brown sugar in the microwave. Really, mom. You know I am not a cook.)

I was so miserable, I thought I could just take the clumps out and continue baking. I was wrong. Apparently, the more frustrated I got, the bigger the balls grew.

As squishy (and falling apart) as they were when they came out of the oven yesterday…(if you look closely at the middle of the middle lump, that huge brown spot is a clump of brown sugar that I didn’t take out of the batter…)

Warm and falling apart

they are hard as lumps of coal this morning.

Hard a coal.

Yes. It completed my horrible day to the “t”.

Besides the whining, this post is to inform you that brown sugar hardens in jars… Unless you know the magic trick of sticking it in the microwave. Perhaps a “P.S.” on the instructions will do when you hand them out….

(Also, happy End-of-the-World today!)

  1. LOL! I’ve always wondered about those cookie-in-a-jar things. Thanks for the chuckle. Happy end-of-the-world day to you, too.
